Ken Lum: Midway Shopping Plaza

Recorded for the 2014 Whitney Biennial audio guide

Ken Lum’s “Midway Shopping Plaza” is a sign for an imaginary strip mall created in response to a real one near the artist’s home in South Philadelphia. The sign was included in the Whitney Museum of American Art’s 2014 Biennial. The Whitney hired me to record Lum talking about this piece. That recording was used by the Biennial audio guide producers who also added narration to create this final piece for the Whitney Biennial Audio Guide.
